Writer and director James Gunn brings the final chapter of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy to theaters with the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn has teamed up with Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, for over a decade to bring the Guardians franchise to the big screen. The original Guardians of the Galaxy movie, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, was released in 2014, followed by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, released in 2017.
The first two installments helped solidify the franchise among the most successful in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). On May 5, 2023, fans will get to follow their beloved characters on their last galaxy-saving adventure in the Guardians of the Galaxy (GotG) finale.

Movie Plot
The Guardian team settles into life on Knowhere, but their lives are soon upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill is still suffering from the loss of Gamora after Avengers: Infinity War, but he must rally his team for a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life and defend the universe.
Runtime
The movie length is approximately 2 hours 30 minutes, making it the longest of the trilogy.
Rating
The movie’s rating is PG-13 due to “intense sequences of violence and action.” A PG-13 rating strongly cautions parents that some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. The movie may include strong language, extended violence or sexual situations, and drug use. Other MCU movies receiving a PG-13 rating include Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania, and Thor: Love and Thunder.
Theater Release Date
The movie will be released worldwide, in theaters only, on Friday, May 5, 2023. You can purchase tickets in advance through Fandango or your local movie theater.

Guardians of the Galaxy Marathon Event
Before the May 5 release date, moviegoers are invited to attend the exclusive “The IMAX Guardians of the Galaxy Marathon” on May 3. You can experience all three films in one IMAX event and receive an exclusive commemorative poster and lanyard.
The marathon viewing is a one-night-only event, so check your local listings for a participating IMAX theater near you. Tickets are $50 for the nearly seven-hour event.
