Step into the intricate web of Marvel’s vast multiverse as we unravel the enigmatic story of one of its most mysterious characters — Madame Web. With her clairvoyant powers and unique connection to the fabric of reality, Madame Web has become an essential figure in the Marvel universe and is about to make her debut on the silver screen.

Everything You Should Know Before Seeing Madame Web

Madame Web is the newest feature film being added to Sony’s universe of Spider-Man films. The movie is being brought to the big screen by Sony Pictures Releasing and Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel Studios. If that lineup looks familiar, it’s because it’s the same powerhouse trio that created the trilogy of Tom Holland blockbusters: Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While there are several entries into the Spider-Man lore that have come before it, Madame Web appears to be largely a stand-alone film with no direct connection to the previous movies — at least from the trailer. This means casual viewers and Spidey fans alike can enjoy the film without worrying that a gap in their knowledge may detract from the experience.

Director S.J. Clarkson

The film’s director, S.J. Clarkson, is no stranger to powerful action sequences and thrilling, mysterious plots. In fact, Madame Web isn’t Clarkson’s first run at a Marvel project, as she also worked on Netflix’s original series The Defenders, which takes place after the events of the Daredevil series — both available on Disney+.

Clarkson is also known for the series Life on Mars and has also directed episodes of cultural juggernauts like Succession and Orange is the New Black.

Movie Plot

Madame Web follows the story of Casandra Webb, played by Dakota Johnson, who works as a paramedic in New York City. After a near-death experience, Cassandra begins to see fissures in time — fragmented moments that haven’t happened yet.

As she grapples with visions of the future, Cassandra is forced to confront her past and align herself with three inexplicably linked strangers to defend themselves against a masked killer bent on changing their destinies. The events that unfold make up the origin story of Madame Web.

Runtime

The film is reported to be one hour and 55 minutes (115 minutes), not including any post-credit scenes which have fans hoping for a glimpse into the larger universe that connects Sony’s other Spider-Man properties.

Rating

While no official rating has been released yet, it is expected to receive a PG-13 rating.

Theater Release Date

Madame Web will premiere on February 14, 2024. The release cannot come soon enough, as fans have had to endure the film being delayed twice, with its original release slated for July 7, 2023.

Streaming Options

After its theatrical run, Madame Web will likely be released on a streaming platform. However, it has not been announced which platform will carry the film. Other Spider-Man properties are divided across Disney+, Netflix, and Hulu.
