As always, the 2024 Super Bowl was a star-studded event filled with excitement – as well as nostalgia for some viewers of the Halftime Show. There was no shortage of celebrities at the event from Jay-Z & Beyonce – who announced a new album during the game – to Jason & Kylie Kelce, Blake Lively, and Taylor Swift. Even the Halftime Show was full of stars as headliner Usher brought out multiple performers to join him, including Ludacris, Lil Jon, Alicia Keys, and H.E.R. The set was jam-packed with many of Usher’s biggest hits, a marching band, Vegas showgirls (aligning with his recent Vegas residency), and even a performance in roller skates!
The players weren’t going to be outdone by the performances though and gave viewers a thrilling game with nearly 75 minutes of game play. The 49ers started the game strong with an impressive first half; however, they weren’t fully able to carry that same momentum and dominance into the second half. The Chiefs came back from halftime strong putting up 16 points between the two quarters. The 49ers made a strong push and ended up taking the lead in the 4th quarter – things were looking good for them as they were ahead by three with two minutes left. Patrick Mahomes and crew were not to be stopped though and scored a field goal to send the game to overtime.
This was only the second Super Bowl to go into overtime play, and it was a bit chaotic as the overtime rules have changed with time. The 49ers took the ball first and managed a field goal – putting them up by three. Next, the Chiefs got a chance and were able to take the ball all the way to the end zone for a touchdown and the win. The final score was 25-22 in favor of Kansas City. With this victory they became back-to-back champions, after beating the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023 – ironically by three points as well.
