Following the success of the show’s first season, Marvel Studios’ Loki returns to Disney+ for a second season this fall. The beloved villain turned protagonist, played by Tom Hiddleston, was first introduced to fans as part of the Avengers series and has continued to capture imaginations since the streaming series began in 2021.

Before streaming the first episode of the new season, review the information below to get up to date with who Loki is, his backstory, the expected plot, and more.

Everything You Should Know Before Watching Loki Season 2

Whether you’re a longtime fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) or coming to it for the first time, here’s what you’ll want to know before watching Loki Season 2.

Who is Loki?

Named for Loki Odinson, the God of Mischief of Norse mythology, the character Loki was developed by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for Marvel Comics before being adapted to the screen as part of the MCU.

As the brother of Thor, the God of Thunder, Loki first appeared in Thor (2011) and subsequently played a central role as the villain in The Avengers (2012).

His character arc began as an intimidating villain, hungry for power and glory. However, as the Loki character has progressed throughout the years of the MCU, he has become more vulnerable and caring, cementing his status as a fan favorite.

Though he had seemingly died on multiple occasions, the God of Mischief has used his trickery to continuously pop up throughout the MCU.
