Quick Summary

Illegal sports streaming sites show NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, Premier League, UFC, and college games without broadcast rights. Since late 2024, most of the biggest names, including Streameast, Crackstreams, MethStreams, Buffstreams, Sportsurge, and Footybite, have gone offline or lost domains to law enforcement. However, copycats and backup domains keep resurfacing. Each of these sites exposes you to malware, phishing, payment fraud, and legal risk, and every major league offers licensed streaming options instead.

  • Biggest takedown: In August 2025, Egyptian authorities and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) shut down a Streameast-branded network of about 80 domains that drew 1.6 billion visits in the prior year.
  • Largest U.S. action: In June 2026, the Department of Justice seized nearly 400 pirate streaming domains tied to the FIFA World Cup under Operation Offsides 2026, then seized more than 100 more in July.
  • Still online: As of July 2026, several brands, including Buffstreams, Sportsurge, and Footybite, ran on backup domains using Iran’s .ir extension, which sits outside U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Newest threat: Mirrored subscriber streams. Adalytics found a single pirated Peacock stream of Super Bowl LX reaching more than 100,000 devices.
  • Safer option: Every league covered below has licensed streaming options. Browse our sports streaming guides.

Illegal sports streaming sites have become a major headache for leagues, broadcasters, and law enforcement around the world. During Super Bowl LX in February 2026, ad tech auditing firm Adalytics tracked a single pirated copy of NBC’s Peacock stream that reached more than 100,000 devices. That was one of more than 100 sites rebroadcasting the game, and Adalytics’ founder estimates the official ratings missed one to two million viewers as a result.

The NFL isn’t the only league feeling it. Along with the NFL, representatives from the NBA and UFC sent a joint letter to the federal government warning of rampant piracy and an estimated $28 billion in lost revenue worldwide each year.

Most fans who pirate say it comes down to money. In a January 2025 Oddspedia survey of 5,000

NBA fans, the cost of legal options was the top reason people gave for illegal streaming (46.4%), with convenience close behind (43.9%).

We get it. Subscriptions and pay-per-view fees add up fast, and a free stream can look like an easy win. But illegal sports streaming sites carry real risks for you and for the sports you love, and plenty of them look legitimate enough to fool careful fans.

That’s where StreamSafely comes in. Below, we break down the most common illegal sports streams, which ones law enforcement has shut down, how they reach viewers, and why skipping them is the smarter play. For the bigger picture, check out our illegal sports streaming statistics.

Most Common Illegal Sports Streaming Sites by League

Illegal streaming sites keep getting better at looking like the real thing. Some show no obvious red flags, so you could click play and risk exposing your personal information without realizing it. Below are known unauthorized platforms to avoid, organized by league.

We’ve added a status note wherever law enforcement or rights holders have taken action, current as of October 2026. Keep in mind that a seized domain rarely ends an operation, since operators usually relaunch on a backup or copycat address within just a few hours.

Recently Shut Down or Seized

  • Streameast: In September 2025, ACE and Egyptian police shut down a Streameast-branded network of about 80 domains, including streameast.app, and arrested two suspects in Giza. Those domains now send visitors to ACE’s Watch Legally page. TorrentFreak later reported that this network had copied the Streameast name, and that the original Streameast, whose domains U.S. authorities seized in 2024, kept running on new addresses. If a site uses the Streameast name, treat it as unsafe.
  • Crackstreams and MethStreams: Both sites went dark on December 30, 2024, after their operator announced a break from live streaming. ACE took over crackstreams.dad in September 2025, and U.S. authorities seized the clone domains icrackstreams.app and imethstreams.app in June 2026.
  • Buffstreams, Sportsurge, Footybite, and Totalsportek: ACE took over buffstreams.app and totalsportek.fun in September 2025. Operation Offsides 2026 then seized ibuffstreams.app, sportsurge.ws, footybite.app, and totalsportekz.app, among others. In July 2026, TorrentFreak found .ir backup domains for these brands still in use.
  • TheTVApp and TVPass: Both services went offline on June 6, 2026, with no official explanation. TVPass hadn’t returned as of July 2026, while TheTVApp resurfaced on a new domain within weeks. U.S. authorities seized the-tv.app and thetvapp.link in July 2026.
  • DaddyLive, FirstRow Sports, Hesgoal, VIPBox, and Score808: U.S. authorities seized domains including daddylive.org, firstrowsports.org, hesgoals.lol, vipbox-tv.live, and 808score.net in July 2026. ACE took over thevipbox.org in September 2025.
  • Rojadirecta copycats: U.S. authorities seized dozens of Rojadirecta and Futbol Libre lookalike domains in June 2026.
  • NFLBite and NBABite: NFLbite.com and NBAbite.com stopped resolving in September 2023 after an Indian court order. ACE took over several NFLBite lookalike domains in September 2025, and NFLBite-branded .ir domains were still in use in July 2026.

NFL

  • NFLBite: Once promoted through Reddit stream communities, which Reddit banned in 2019, NFLBite claims to offer every NFL game from preseason to the Super Bowl, but it doesn’t have the rights to show any of them. The site hosts nothing itself. Each game links out to third-party players stacked with redirects and fake play buttons. Status: NFLBite went offline in 2023, ACE seized lookalike domains in 2025, and NFLBite-branded .ir domains were in use as of July 2026.
  • NFL Webcast: NFL Webcast lures you in with the promise of free, no sign-up access to channels like NFL Network, ESPN, NBC, CBS, and FOX. Like its MLB and NHL sister sites, it works as a front door: you browse a clean schedule, then get handed off to unvetted streams that can carry malicious ads.
  • Sportsurge: Sportsurge claims it doesn’t run pop-up ads, but it still makes money from advertising. Don’t let the cleaner look lure you into a false sense of security. Sportsurge works as a link directory, so the streams it lists come from operators you can’t identify. Status: sportsurge.ws seized July 2026; sportsurge.ir in use as of July 2026.

Other Malicious Sites and Unauthorized Providers:

  • CricFree
  • USTVGO
  • FSL (Free Streaming Live)
  • Sport Lemon TV
  • HesGoal (hesgoals.lol and hesgoaltv.lat seized July 2026)
  • Buffstreams (domains seized in September 2025 and July 2026; buffstreams.ir in use as of July 2026)
  • Totalsportek (totalsportek.fun seized in 2025 and totalsportekz.app in 2026; .ir domains in use)
  • StreamSports99 (a mirrored stream network on .com, .ru, .su, and several other extensions)

NBA

  • NBAStream.net: NBAStream.net focuses on NBA games for iOS and Android users, but its streams are unreliable, and unverified third parties host them. Sites like this often push you to install an app or browser extension to “fix” playback, a common way to sneak malware onto your device.
  • NBABox TV: NBABox TV may look well organized, but you’ll get bombarded with aggressive ads, many of which lead to fake prize offers and phishing pages. Like NBAStream.net, it relies on unknown operators to host the footage, and you have no way of knowing what they’re after
  • NBA-Stream: Don’t let the professional layout fool you. NBA-Stream is packed with unverified streams and heavy advertising. A polished design costs pirates little these days, since AI tools make it cheap to design sites that look legal.

Other Malicious Sites and Unauthorized Providers:

  • DaddyLiveHD (daddylive.org seized July 2026)
  • Streameast (a Streameast-branded network was shut down in August 2025; other sites using the name remain online)
  • LiveTV SX
  • Buffstreams
  • Bosscast
  • Rojadirecta (dozens of copycat domains seized June 2026)
  • Livesport24
  • NBABite (NBABite.com offline since 2023)

For easy, legal ways to watch, browse our NBA streaming guide.

Premier League

  • Footybite.to: Despite the Premier League’s efforts to combat digital piracy,  Footybite keeps posing as a legitimate streaming option when it’s anything but. It lists matches from nearly every soccer league and sends you to outside players it doesn’t control. Status: footybite.app seized July 2026; footybite.ir in use as of July 2026.
  • Champagne.pages.dev: Known as an all-encompassing platform for everything from live sports streams to code, Champagne.pages.dev promotes dubious providers and unauthorized streaming sites. Because it lives on a free hosting subdomain, its operators can abandon it and relaunch somewhere new at no cost.
  • Sportshub.fan & Sportshub.stream: Both Sportshub.fan and Sportshb.stream were blocked in the U.K. for broadcasting rights violations.

Other Malicious Sites and Unauthorized Providers:

  • GiveMeRedditStream
  • FreeStreamsLive (freestreams-live1.top suspended in 2023)
  • Score808 (808score.net and score-808.net seized July 2026)
  • Totalsportek

Legal is always better. View our comprehensive soccer streaming guide now.

MLB

  • MLB Webcast: MLB Webcast promises free access, no geo-restrictions, and multiple commentary options. But it doesn’t host its own content, and it doesn’t vouch for the shady operators that do. Expect a chain of redirects before any video loads.
  • TheTVApp.to: TheTVApp offers several U.S. TV channels and a range of sports content, including MLB, without authorization. Status: TheTVApp went offline on June 6, 2026, alongside sister service TVPass, and U.S. authorities seized the-tv.app and thetvapp.link in July. TheTVApp has since resurfaced on a new domain, and copycats use the name too.
  • Dofu: The Dofu app is available on Google Play and the App Store, but all that free content is a giveaway that it’s not as legitimate as it wants you to believe. An app store listing only means an app passed a technical review. It says nothing about broadcast rights.

Other Malicious Sites and Unauthorized Providers:

  • Sportshub.stream
  • Sportsurge
  • Streameast
  • MLB66 (runs on .ir domains alongside sister site NHL66)

For the best legal streaming options, check out our MLB streaming guide.

NHL

  • NHL Webcast: Like its MLB and NFL counterparts, NHL Webcast makes it easy to browse popular sports, but it sends you to unvetted third parties where your data and device security could be at risk.
  • NHL66: NHL66 sticks to hockey, has no rights to the games it shows, and drops you into a worldwide chat that can expose you to scams and bot attacks. Status: in use in 2026 on .ir domains that U.S. authorities can’t easily seize.

FirstRow Sports: FirstRow Sports has an outdated design and, by many accounts, so many ads and pop-ups that you can barely watch the game. Status: firstrowsports.org seized July 2026.

Other Malicious Sites and Unauthorized Providers:

  • Bosscast
  • Buffstreams
  • NHLBite

Check out every hockey game safely and legally with our full NHL streaming guide.

UFC & WWE

  • Tonight.mmastreams.cc: Known as MMA Streams on Reddit, Tonight.mmastreams.cc piles up outside links to UFC and WWE content without checking whether they’re legal or safe.
  • WatchWrestlingUP: WatchWrestlingUP has the sloppy layout typical of illegal streaming sites, and its mission statement says it exists to help you skip paying for legitimate services.
  • WatchWrestling.ec: Like the other sites here, WatchWrestling.ec has a dated, low-quality interface, and that should be warning enough

Other Malicious Sites and Unauthorized Providers:

  • Crackstreams (offline since December 2024; clone domains seized in 2025 and 2026)
  • UFC Streams
  • FromHot
  • 720pStream

UFC pay-per-view prices of about $80 per event gave fight fans a reason to hunt for free streams. In the U.S., that reason is gone. Starting in 2026, Paramount+ streams every UFC numbered event and Fight Night with no pay-per-view fee, and WWE’s premium live events now stream on ESPN. See all your options in our sports streaming guides.

College Sports

  • Sportshub.stream: Sportshub.stream got into hot water over the legality of its soccer content, and its NCAA streams are just as suspect.
  • Zuzz.tv: Zuzz.tv sells subscriptions to NCAA football and other live sports, but users online have questioned its legality for years. Paying for a pirate subscription hands your card details to an operator who can vanish overnight.
  • NCAABBall Streams: Once one of the most popular options for college sports streams, NCAABBall Streams got kicked off Reddit for repeated copyright infringement violations.

Mirrored Subscriber Streams: The Newest Threat

Some pirates no longer bother with stolen satellite feeds. Operators like StreamSports99 and WatchSports buy one legitimate subscription, then mirror that screen to thousands of devices. In a May 2026 report, Adalytics found these services push viewers to download apps, add-ons, and “premium” upgrades, and its founder suspects many exist mainly to infect devices with malware. StreamSports99 alone runs on .com, .ru, .tv, .su, and several other extensions, and it takes credit card payments for a premium tier.

Illegal streaming sites keep changing to dodge detection and shutdowns. One of their favorite tricks is tweaking the URL, so any site with a name similar to those above may be the same operation or a copycat. Some operators plan years ahead. TorrentFreak found .ir backup domains that operators set up in 2023 and kept ready until U.S. authorities seized their main addresses in 2026.

Every illegal streaming platform comes with risks. Best case, you get a blurry stream that cuts out at the worst moment. Worst case, you deal with malware, stolen data, or legal trouble. Stick with official, licensed services for a safe, high-quality stream that also supports your favorite teams.

Signs of an Illegal Sports Streaming Site

Knowing the telltale signs of an illegal streaming platform helps you protect your data and choose where to watch more safely. Keep an eye out for these red flags:

  • Excessive pop-up ads
  • Website URLs that begin with “http” instead of “https”
  • Poor website design and unofficial team and league branding
  • Fake play buttons and misleading links
  • Excessive redirects and suspicious downloads
  • Lack of official information or legal disclaimers
  • Offering free streaming of every game from every league
  • Community chat features that contain suspicious links
  • Prompts to install an app, browser extension, or “HD player” before the stream starts

Go deeper with our guide to the signs and red flags of illegal sports streaming websites.

Common Illegal Streaming Methods

Knowing how illegal streams reach viewers makes them easier to spot and avoid. Pirates change tactics often, but these are the methods you’ll run into most.

IPTV Services

IPTV services deliver television content over Internet Protocol (IP) networks. In other words, they send sporting events and TV shows to you through the internet, instead of satellite or cable. Plenty of IPTV providers are legitimate, but many unauthorized services use the same technology to offer huge libraries of live sports and other content without proper licensing. They can look official, with subscription packages, convenient apps, and plug-ins. Behind the scenes, though, the content usually comes from captured satellite feeds, redirected broadcasts, and other illegal sources. In September 2026, the pirate IPTV app LiveNetTV shut down after a police raid in Turkey, and its operators settled with ACE.

P2P Streaming Networks

In a peer-to-peer (P2P) network, users connect directly with one another to share links, copy content, and post downloadable files. With no central server, authorities have a much harder time tracking these networks and shutting them down. If one user gets banned or taken offline, everyone else keeps copying and spreading the content as usual.

All those shared links and files make the risk of malware high. One wrong click could install a virus that steals your passwords or leaves your device useless.

Social Media Streams

Social media has become a surprising hotspot for illegal sports streaming. Pirates use Facebook Live, YouTube Live, Twitch, and Instagram Live to rebroadcast games, sometimes adding their own commentary to try to claim fair use. They then share the links through forums, direct messages, and private Discord servers. In July 2024, Meta began tightening its live-streaming restrictions to cut down on piracy.

Web-Based Streaming Aggregators

Web-based streaming aggregators work like link libraries. They don’t host streams themselves. Instead, they index links to outside sources that nobody vets, which can expose you to malware and a flood of malicious or misleading ads. Some aggregators also run phishing scams that ask you to “log in” and then steal whatever credentials you enter.

Once you know these methods, illegal streams are much easier to spot. When in doubt, stick with official, licensed options for a safe, high-quality stream.

Consequences of Using Illegal Sports Streaming Websites

An unauthorized stream can seem harmless, especially when official options strain your wallet. The risks far outweigh the savings, though:

  • Legal Risks: Accessing copyrighted content without permission or using illegal streaming devices is a crime in many countries. If you get caught, you could face significant fines or even jail time. Even if you avoid legal trouble,  your internet service provider (ISP) may flag your account and suspend your service.
  • Cybersecurity Risks: Illegal streaming sites are full of unvetted links and ads that can infect your device with malware. Once inside, that malware can use your IP address to attack others, steal your identity, or lock up your device until you pay a ransom. In late 2024, Microsoft traced one malvertising campaign that started on illegal streaming sites and reached nearly one million devices. Read more about the cybersecurity risks of illegal sports streams.
  • Poor Streaming Quality: Expect blurry video, constant buffering, audio that doesn’t match the picture, and nonstop ads. Streams also drop mid-game when rights holders get them taken down.
  • Financial Risks: Entering your card details on shady IPTV sites and other illegal streaming services can lead to unauthorized charges, subscriptions you can’t cancel, and hidden fees.
  • Ethical Concerns: Organized crime groups run many illegal streaming operations, so your clicks can end up funding other illegal activity. In the 2025 Streameast-branded case, investigators found links to a UAE shell company allegedly used to collect more than $6 million in advertising revenue. Pirate streams also drain money from the sports you love, which can mean less coverage and lost jobs.

Frequently Asked Questions About Illegal Sports Streaming

Is it illegal to watch sports on free streaming sites?

Running an unlicensed sports stream is illegal in the U.S., and since 2020, operating large, free sports streaming sites has been a felony. Prosecutors rarely go after individual viewers, but watching still means accessing pirated content and taking on every security risk the site carries. Free streams from licensed sources, like a network’s own app, are legal.

What happened to Streameast?

In August 2025, Egyptian police working with ACE arrested two people and took over about 80 Streameast-branded domains, which now redirect to ACE’s legal streaming directory. TorrentFreak reported that the seized network was a copycat and that the original Streameast kept operating after the raid. U.S. authorities seized more Streameast-branded domains in 2026. No site using the name is safe or legal.

Why do illegal sports streaming sites keep coming back after being shut down?

Seizing a domain doesn’t catch the people running the site. Operators keep backup domains ready, including .ir addresses outside U.S. reach, and redirect their traffic within hours. Arrests do more damage than seizures, but even then, clones can keep a popular brand name alive.

How can I tell if a sports streaming site is illegal?

Watch for constant pop-ups, fake play buttons, missing league branding, prompts to install software, and offers to stream every game from every league for free. Our guide to the red flags of illegal sports streaming websites walks through each warning sign.

Can illegal sports streams give my device malware?

Yes. Pirate sites make money through malicious ads, fake downloads, and add-ons that can install spyware, ransomware, or keyloggers. A 2025 study of piracy sites in Southeast Asia, published by ACE, found visits carried up to 65 times the malware risk of legitimate sites.

Is it illegal to use a VPN to watch sports?

Using a VPN is legal in the U.S. A VPN won’t make a pirated stream legal, though, and using one to get around a service’s regional restrictions can break its terms of use. Read more in our article on using a VPN to watch sports.

Start with free options. Many big events, including the Super Bowl, air on broadcast networks you can watch with an antenna. From there, pick one service built around the league you follow most, use free trials around key games, and check whether your phone or internet plan bundles a streaming service at no extra cost.
