Following the epic success of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Marvel Studios is gearing up to hit another one out of the park in its next Phase 5 blockbuster, “Captain America: Brave New World”! Anthony Mackie is about to take Cap’s iconic shield — and the Falcon’s wings — to the silver screen for the first time. When a terrorist attack disrupts a presidential reelection campaign, Sam Wilson, aka Captain America, discovers that no one can be trusted — not even the president’s closest inner circle.
While the film is still a few months away, we at StreamSafely are beside ourselves with excitement. However, given the incredible anticipation of this high-profile film, it’s more important than ever that we, as fans, respect and protect the characters we hold dear. The stir this movie has caused already, combined with the popularity of the MCU, makes it a large target for digital piracy. We at StreamSafely encourage you to avoid pirated content and only engage with official content and trusted websites and forums when it comes to discussing this all-new film.
“Captain America: Brave New World” is Marvel at its best, with action and spectacle that have captivated audiences and won over fans worldwide. Let’s jump in!
Marvel’s Phase 5: Paving the Way
“Captain America: Brave New World” is the second-to-last installment of Marvel’s Phase 5. In 2022, at the San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios Chief Kevin Feige announced plans for Marvel’s Phase 5 and Phase 6, including teasing the newest Captain America movie, then called “Captain America: New World Order.” Phase 5 included six feature films (along with six new TV shows or renewed seasons), kicking off with “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” in 2023.
Unfortunately, the Phase 5 movies ended up underperforming, with both “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels” failing to meet audience expectations and being criticized by the Los Angeles Times and Roger Ebert, among others. “Blade” was ultimately removed from the production calendar in October 2024.
Nevertheless, despite not being part of the original Phase 5 lineup, “Deadpool & Wolverine” earned Marvel and Disney an audience score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and an estimated $1.3 billion worldwide on a budget of $200 million, according to IMDb.
Everything You Should Know Before Seeing Captain America: Brave New World
“Captain America: Brave New World” seems to be teeing up for another blockbuster success. While “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and others occasionally struggled to cut through the chaos of the multiverse, establish consistent rules, or differentiate similar superpowers and abilities, the new Captain America movie is more stripped down.
The film appears to return to Marvel’s classic wheelhouse: action, adventure, and Americana. The stakes are high, and the powers are clear cut: supertech versus superstrength. We at StreamSafely cannot wait!
Overview of Captain America’s Role
The new film stars MCU alumnus Anthony Mackie, who made his first appearance in the franchise in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” in 2014 as Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon. At the end of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame” — spoilers! — Steve Rogers, the then Captain America, played by Chris Evans, chooses to stay in the past and live out the rest of his life with Peggy Carter. In the present, as an old man, Rogers gifts Wilson his iconic shield, effectively passing the torch for Wilson to become the next Captain America.
Mackie’s character returned as Captain America — complete with Steve Rogers’ shield and the Falcon’s wings — in the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” The series takes place six months after the reversal of Thanos’ detrimental snap. However, not everyone is happy with the change. A terrorist group known as the Flag Smashers seeks to restore Thanos’ vision of the world, and Sam Wilson must team up with Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, to stop them.
“Captain America: Brave New World” is an all-new adventure set after the events of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” All Marvel installments are available on Disney+.
Julius Onah
Julius Onah is a Nigerian-American director. He earned a B.A. in theater from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, before moving on to his film M.F.A. at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Onah previously directed “The Girl Is in Trouble” (2015), Netflix’s “The Cloverfield Paradox” (2018), and “Luce” (2019).
“Captain America: Brave New World” is Onah’s first foray into the MCU. Despite reshoots and rumors of removal, he is still the film’s director, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Movie Plot
Facing reelection, President Thaddeus Ross tries to convince Sam Wilson to join the U.S. military as Captain America in an official capacity. When a terrorist shooting destroys a political event, Captain America must protect President Ross against colluding forces within the president’s inner circle. However, the greatest threat to the president and Captain America may be the terrible beast Thaddeus Ross keeps within.
Genre
Marvel has won over audiences with its perfect mix of action, superhero sci-fi, and wit since “Iron Man” graced the silver screen in 2008. “Captain America: Brave New World” continues the tradition. IMDb’s official tags for the film are Superhero, Action, Adventure, and Sci-Fi.
Runtime
No official runtime for “Captain America: Brave New World” has been announced, but the Marvel Updates account on X (formerly Twitter) recently posted that the film would be 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Marvel movies have an average runtime of 2 hours and 12 minutes, according to Murphy’s Multiverse. The previous three Captain America films, “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” and “Captain America: Civil War” all exceeded the two-hour mark.
Rating
“Captain America: Brave New World” is expected to receive a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association, like most Marvel movies. Although the MCU is generally considered to be family-friendly, some action scenes and gunplay may be too intense for young audiences.
Theatrical Release Date
“Captain America: Brave New World” will be released exclusively to theaters on February 14, 2025.
Streaming Options
The new Captain America film will be released exclusively to theaters early next year. As a Marvel property, which is owned by Disney, the film will likely be available on “Disney+” following its theatrical run.
That said, be especially wary of other sites claiming to carry Marvel films. Some legitimate platforms, like Prime Video and YouTube, may have the movie for purchase or rent, but any site claiming to have access to the MCU for free is almost certainly fraudulent. Cast & Crew
Anthony Mackie leads the cast as Sam Wilson, aka Captain America, in the all-new movie. Before his Marvel fame, Mackie was known for his roles as Sergeant J.T. Apart from the MCU, he has since starred in Peacock’s “If You Were the Last” (2023) as Adam Gherrity and as Will in “Elevation,” which was released on November 8, 2024.
Harrison Ford will be playing opposite Mackie as President Thaddeus Ross — and his terrible alter ego, the Red Hulk.
