The fifth season was officially announced on July 1, 2025, and FX confirmed it as the show’s last chapter in May 2026. After production wrapped in early 2026, she posted on Instagram that the cast had “finished strong” and “completed the story,” which sent fans into a frenzy.
Just weeks before the season premiere, FX and Hulu dropped a surprise standalone prequel episode titled “Gary.” The episode follows Richie and Mikey on a work trip to Gary, Indiana, and, as the episode description puts it, adds “emotional context that reframes their story from the very beginning.”
