How Do Grammy Nominations Work?

Nominations for the Grammy Awards are determined by an intricate voting system. Members of the Recording Academy, which consists of various music industry professionals, submit their votes to determine who will be nominated in each category. The primary categories for the Grammy Awards are divided into two distinct groups: General and Field. The General category includes awards such as Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year. The Field categories represent specific genres of music, including pop, country, and gospel.

2023 Grammy Awards Updates 

The 2023 Grammy Awards ceremony was a memorable one but not only for the winners of the top three awards. Trevor Noah, the evening’s host, kept the crowd entertained by sprinkling in some comedy between announcements of winners and stunning performances. Performers included Queen Latifah, Public Enemy, Rakim, and Busta Rhymes as they celebrated hip-hop’s 50th anniversary. 

Beyonce won four Grammys making her the most decorated artist in history as she broke the previous record of 31 Grammy wins held by Georg Solti. Her wins included best dance/electronic album, best R&B song, best dance/electronic recording, and best traditional R&B performance, giving her a total of 32 during her illustrious career. Another huge accomplishment of the night went to Viola Davis as she captured her first Grammy. This propelled her into EGOT status (those with Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony wins) – a rare feat that only 17 people have earned.
